A six-panelled folding screen by Ogata Korin based on the Japanese classic Ise monogatari (The Tales of Ise), a series of poems on love and journeying, accompanied by brief notes. The clumps of irises offer a dramatic contrast to the geometrical patterns created by the angular bridge.
Ogata Korin (1658–1716, Japan), Pair of six–panel folding screens; ink and color on gilded paper.
Each screen 179.1 x 371.5 cm
