DRIFT is a multilingual performance choreography and takes inspiration from eco-poetics, a genre in which poets respond to the growing climate crisis through their use of language, mimicking ecological processes such as recycling and looping. Poet Jane Lewty collaged a poem-text based on novels and poems that focus on the vulnerable relationship between nature and culture, language and perception, beauty and destruction. The text was performed by singers and dancers of diverse languages and nationalities, choreographed in collaboration with Marjolein Vogels. Set against a backdrop of collages made from plant material, DRIFT explores how language plays into questions of land rights, nationality, belonging, and ecology.
DRIFT was supported by Stichting Stokroos.
